EXCLUSIVE: Willie Jones Talks Debut Album ‘Right Now’

On Friday, January 22nd, country music’s newest hitmaker Willie Jones will be making a splash with his incredible debut album ‘Right Now‘ which sees him effortlessly incorporating a number of genre styles into his impressive, unique soundscape that makes him stand out from the current crop of performers.

Here we chat exclusively with Willie Jones to discuss the record ahead of its official release later this week:

How does it feel to be on the verge of sharing your debut album?

So excited, this was a long time coming. It’s like your baby is due next month, oh snap, no it’s not. You got another 9 months to go now.. WTH?

Can you tell us a little about what the overall writing and recording process was like for this project?

I write by being inspired by the music first. Then I freestyle melodies until we pick the ones we like. Once we’ve got the melodies, we start hammering out the lyrics. Most of the time, we have an idea of what we want to write before the session.

Who have you worked with to bring this vision to life?

I only work with producers and writers who support the direction we’ve been on – and not try to force anything. My manager has these studios in Los Angeles called the Penthouse, most of the songs were done there and in Nashville. To keep your true vision, especially when you’re doing something new, you better have some good people in your corner.

Do you have any set goals in mind for this body of work?

Just to release it, Have people hear it, receive it, make their own opinions, and if they rock with it, then cool. I’m proud of it.

How does it feel to be sharing your first full length album during this strange period of political upheaval and an ongoing pandemic?

It’s weird, last year felt like it went by quick but I guess I’m the only one who felt that way. It’s definitely strange times but it’s strange for all of us, so strange is the new normal. Some of my songs should challenge people to think a little more while others will make them want to get in their cars and just drive.

What do you feel your music brings to the current soundscape of the music industry and country music in particular?

My music brings a different vibe and freedom – I don’t have to stay within the lines. We had a plan to release specific songs to introduce my sound and then were consistent with the music that followed.

Your music doesn’t particularly fit into the old school demographic of country so how do you see your sound changing the current stylistic of the scene?

I’m in my twenties so I shouldn’t be doing old school yet, LOL. I just take what I know, what feels right to me, and create. I don’t know how to do anything else and I wouldn’t want to try to be formulaic anyway, it kills the creative process.

What are you hoping listeners will take away from this record?

[that] They’ll say.. I mess with this kid. His pen is legit, his melodies are fire, and he can sing his butt off. Or not.

Is there one song in particular on the tracklist that you’re most excited for fans to hear?

Definitely American Dream.

Looking ahead, what else can we expect from you this year?

NEW & MORE… and hopefully a concert or two.
