LIVE REVIEW: Ward Thomas @ Barbican – London
On Friday, April 14th, British country music stars Ward Thomas brought their Music in the Madness tour to London at the iconic Barbican venue to perform hits from their incredible five-album back catalogue in front of a packed crowd.
The twin sisters, Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas are the jewels in the crown of the UK Country Music scene and their incredible live shows only further enhance that sentiment as they showcase their stunningly intricate vocal harmonies, empowering songwriting skill, and easy-on-stage presence.
Having been going to see Ward Thomas play live since 2016, it has been incredible to see the size of the audiences and venues growing with them on each tour and to see their confidence in their performances grow has been such an incredible experience. They were destined to be true country music superstars, and that has become their reality.
There is always something intimately special about any gig Ward Thomas play but their Barbican show had an extra layer of magic. Seeing a heavily pregnant Catherine glowing as she played out the songs added to that and there was just a surge of electricity and togetherness throughout the crowd too. Especially on those upbeat moments such as I Believe In You, Music in the Madness, and Carry You Home.
Stripped back songs such as Safe. Love Does, and Cartwheels meanwhile put the spotlight on their outstanding vocal control. Ward Thomas shone like never before in London and it feels like they have truly come into their own as women, artists, and performers. This is a country act that knows exactly what they stand for and they bring that confidence to each and every gig they play.
