Máiréad Announces New Single ‘Belong To Me’
Having been performing live since she was aged just 7, singer/songwriter Máiréad knows the industry inside and out and understands the many pitfalls that come with pursuing a career in the arts so it’s little surprise that her latest single focuses on that theme of realising your own potential whilst learning not to conform.
Her latest offering is titled ‘Belong To Me’ and it will be released across all leading digital download and streaming platforms from November 12th with the track sharing a deeply personal and relatable tale of the pressure of the music business and the freedom that comes with unburdening yourself of what the industry wants you to look and sound like.
It’s an excellent base to build a lyrical story from and one that will no doubt resonate with many, especially those who are carving out careers for themselves in the arts sector – it’s a hard place to make a name for yourself and even harder to do with the myriad of outside voices that try and tell you what to say, sing, and do.
The powerful and emotive country track was co-written by Máiréad alongside fellow UK performer Jess Thristan during lockdown over a virtual writing session and they certainly captured magic during that co-write as ‘Belong To Me’ is a striking song that is one of the best you’ll hear this year.
Speaking about the single, the singer/songwriter says: “Jess & I talked about getting older in the music industry, pressures to conform & realising that we are ‘enough’ just how we are. We wanted to empower others to feel the same and realise how strong they are. I recorded the track with the amazing Robert Gulston (Producer & one half of Country duo Holloway Road). I wanted the track to build & push throughout, just how we do in real life. We keep pushing on. I feel we’ve really achieved this with the track and I’m so proud of it. I can’t want to share it with the world!”.
