Megan O’Neill Announces New Single ‘Head Under Water’
Irish country-influenced singer/songwriter Megan O’Neill returns next Friday (October 9th) with another stellar offering in the form of new single ‘Head Under Water’ which is her best offering to date as the gorgeously gifted vocalist taps into her delightful folk-inspired vocal delivery.
The forthcoming release comes on the back of a hugely successful run of singles that have been shared throughout the past few months by the multi-talented performer including the RTE Radio 1 playlisted ‘Ireland’, and the emotive ‘Fire With Fire’ and this new track builds on that success and surpasses every expectation.
Penned by Megan O’Neill whilst she was based in the UK working on her eagerly awaited new studio album, the song is one that came very naturally and easily with Megan having woken one morning in her hotel room with the melody fully formed in her head and by the time she’d arrived at the recording studio, she had written the lyrics on a scrap of paper, and it was later recorded that afternoon making it a truly organic process.
Speaking about ‘Head Under Water’ and its writing process, Megan says: “Sometimes songs just need to be written and they pour out of you. Head Under Water was one of those songs for me. Although I didn’t actually plan on putting it on the album, I just needed to get it out on that particular day. But when I played it in the studio, Joe and Dave [Dunwell] loved it and so here we are!”
And it’s clear to see why Joe and Dave were so enamored with the truly outstanding track with the powerful lyrical story focusing on that feeling of wanting to reinvent yourself but being scared to do so; a feeling that many listeners will be familiar with especially during this year of upheaval.
