Sarah Darling Announces New Campfire Sessions Release ‘California Gurls’
Fresh from sharing her stunning cover of The Chicks’ global hit ‘Wide Open Spaces’ earlier this summer, US country music sweetheart Sarah Darling has now announced the latest cover release in the Campfire Sessions series which sees her putting her own unique spin on songs that have played a part in her journey.
The latest single from Darling will see her covering pop powerhouse Katy Perry’s global chart hit ‘California Gurls’ which offers the Iowa native the chance to totally reimagine a track. The original version from Perry is pure pop with tongue-in-cheek lyrics and with Darling offering her take on the song ill put a country spin on it.
The forthcoming cover will drop on Friday, October 2nd, and promises to be one of the most exciting and unique releases of the year. This is not a track you’d expect a classic country artist like Sarah Darling to cover so this makes for a truly intriguing offering that will no doubt fascinate both country, and pop fans.
Speaking about the Campfire Sessions as a whole, Sarah Darling says: “The name “Campfire Sessions” evokes a visual of sitting around a fire playing these to my friends. It brings me back to my childhood when I started with just a guitar, playing my tunes for anyone who would listen! These are acoustic covers of some of my favorite songs that hold special meaning to me or have influenced me at a time in my life. Most will have been hit songs when they were first released, although maybe not so well known now, so I’m really excited to be introducing them to my fans, done in my own way!”
And with her rendition of ‘California Gurls’ the Iowa native has surpassed expectations for what this series can offer listeners. This is not an ordinary straight-up cover, Sarah and producer Cheyenne Medders have completely broken the original down and recreated it in a beautifully constructed country music setting.
