Twinnie; Changing The Landscape Of The Music Industry Through I Know A Woman Collective

Having been in the music and entertainment industry since her teens, singer, songwriter, and actress Twinnie knows first-hand just how brutal the industry can be, and how performers are treated like numbers rather than actual people meaning their mental health can suffer whilst those around them try to capitalise on how much money they can make off of their musical success.

And it’s that kind of outlook that Twinnie wants to make sure gets changed, and knowing that, that change has to come from the inside she has officially launched her own music collective with I KNOW A WOMAN looking to create a safe space for all music makers and to standardise therapy within the music business whilst ensuring every creative has easy access to adequate HR resources.

It is the shakeup that music has been needing for a long, long time. You only have to look at the treatment of the likes of Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Demi Lovato, and Kanye West to see that the industry more often than not tries to brush the mental health struggles of their professionals under the carpet until they finally crack under the pressure.

In an exclusive interview with Forbes magazine, Twinnie explained her reasons behind setting up I KNOW A WOMAN and how the inspiration came thanks to a poem from Heidi Rose Robbins, which led to her penning the song titled ‘I Know A Woman’, which then planted the seed in her mind to create this global music collective that has an ever-changing roster of artists and writers.

The I KNOW A WOMAN initiative will undoubtedly change the landscape of the music industry and bring about real, and lasting change that sees the music makers being put first – the movement will be spearheaded by a collaboration album next year on International Women’s Day that will see a single being released once a month via the IKAW record label to ensure every artist featured has a fair shot at playlisting.

IKAW will support all creatives via writing camps, and workshops whilst ensuring that mental health, HR, and funding resources are readily available whenever needed so that music makers have somewhere to go when and if anything goes wrong. The collective also hosts live events worldwide allowing artists from all genres to play their music for a global audience.

Twinnie is changing the landscape of the music industry and with her goals, and ambitions to take this brand worldwide and implement the changes globally so that all creators are treated equally and that labels ensure their signings have this access, she will indelibly make the industry a much fairer and safer one for everybody involved.
