EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Ashley Campbell Talks Upcoming Campbell/Jensen Live Show

Ashley Campbell is one of the most revered and talked about female country artists and on August 15th she returns to London for an intimate showcase at the Crazy Coqs venue with her duo side project Campbell/Jensen alongside her musical partner Thor Jensen for the Nashville Meets London hosted event.

Here we speak exclusively with Ashley Campbell to discuss the upcoming gig:

How excited are you to be playing this show for Nashville Meets London?

We’re mega excited! This will be Campbell/Jensen’s second show with Nashville Meets London, and it’s such a great joy to be a part of. It’s such a great series and the crowd last time was one of the best we’ve had.

How do you feel playing intimate shows in the UK and US differ?

In general, we feel that audiences who attend intimate shows are there for just that; intimacy. Different punchlines might land in different ways but a listening crowd is a joy.

What’s your favourite part of playing to a UK audience?

UK audiences are very attentive to lyrics, and seem to enjoy the whole picture we try to paint throughout our set. It feels more like a conversation than a presentation. We love the intimacy in that.

What can fans expect from this set?

Honest acoustic music, and a few sappy love songs. No bells and whistles here. It’s just us and our instruments playing songs from our album “Turtle Cottage”: Guitar, banjo, and some lovely vocal harmonies throughout.

Which song if any stands out in particular for you when played live?

Our song “Tank and Babe” is always great fun to play for an audience. It’s a story about love that burns hot then burns out after the honeymoon ends. It always gets a great charge from an attentive audience.

Looking ahead, what else does 2024 hold for you?

A few festivals here and there like Long Road Festival and La Roche Bluegrass Festival as well as a tour in Ireland in October. We are also starting to write for another album so we are excited to get back into the creative mindset.
